Colorado’s legislature passed a new bill that will overhaul how oil and gas drilling is regulated in the state by handing more control of well siting and permitting to county and municipal governments. Gov. Jared Polis has publicly supported the legislation and is expected to sign it into law, after which the Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission will have 30 days to release a new set of criteria for reviewing permits as its mission shifts from fostering energy production to protecting health and the environment.
