Flaring and venting of natural gas reached an annual record in 2018 at 1.28 Bcf/d, the Energy Information Administration reported in December. This equates to 1.25% of produced volumes compared to 0.84% the prior year. Texas and North Dakota accounted for 1.1 Bcf/d or 86% of the total.
