The US Coast Guard ordered Taylor Energy to find a new containment solution for
a 14-year-old leak at an oil well offshore Louisiana or pay fines of $40,000 a day. The
ultimatum follows a new analysis ordered by federal officials that estimates
the spill at 250-690 bbl per day, up to 13x larger than previous government
estimates using data provided by the company. Taylor says full containment
could cost nearly $1 billion.
